ManyBabies
Student Advisor |
About the position
The role of Student Advisor (SA) was created to ensure that the student perspective is fully considered in ManyBabies’ organizational decision making. 'Student' here is defined as anyone not yet having completed their PhD or a comparable degree (including those in post-baccalaureate research positions and acknowledging that doctoral candidates may not be considered students everywhere).
The primary responsibility of the MB Student Advisor is to attend monthly one-hour Governing Board meetings and participate in leadership discussions. In addition, the SA will have the opportunity to be involved with other leadership roles, such as sitting on specialized ManyBabies committees, which are responsible for organizing workshops, streamlining the MB onboarding process, and improving MB's diversity and inclusiveness.
Our current SAs will be completing their term in June and we are issuing a call for nominations for their successor(s). The one-year term is renewable for an optional second year, at the discretion of the Student Advisor. SAs are also welcome and encouraged to continue to serve in leadership roles within ManyBabies (e.g., sitting on committees) following the conclusion of their term. |
Nomination process
Individuals may nominate themselves or others as candidates for the SA position. Those nominated by someone else will be contacted to determine whether they choose to accept the nomination. We especially encourage nominees from groups currently under- or not represented in MB general leadership (e.g., located outside of US/Canada, from historically marginalized communities). |
Nominations should include a short blurb – no more than 100 words – about qualifications and/or why the nominee would be a good candidate for the role. Links to papers or websites are welcome as part of this blurb. |
NOMINATION DEADLINE:
MAY 31, 2025 |
Selection process
The Student Advisor(s) will be selected by the Governing Board – including current Student Advisors – at the June 2025 Governing Board meeting, with an expected term start of July 2025 (exact dates contingent on Governing Board meeting schedule).
In selecting the SA, consideration will be given to diversity (see above), interest in open science practices, and qualifications as presented in the nomination blurb. |
