3  MB5 lab participation overview

These are the steps that every data-collecting lab must follow to participate in MB5. This is just an overview of the process. More detail for each numbered item is available in the linked sections.

BEFORE you do ANYTHING else:

  1. Read this manual start to finish
  2. Read the MB5 Collaboration Agreement
  3. Review the information in the ManyBabies General Manual regarding ethical research, authorship, data sharing, and data use
  4. Complete the MB5 Sign-Up Form

BEFORE you begin data collection:

  1. Set up the experiment in consultation with this lab manual (see Setting up the Experiment)
    1. Carefully record any needed deviations from the protocol using the MB5 Issue Tracking and Support Request Form
  2. Submit the version of the demographics questionnaire your lab will be using (see Chapter 5), your lab’s ethics approval (see Chapter 6), and any other documentation/materials
  3. Create and submit your walkthrough video (see Chapter 7)
  4. Run pilot sample through the ManyBabies Data Validator (see Chapter 8)
  5. Email the MB5 Project Leads (mb5@manybabies.org) to let them know that you are ready for “Green-Lighting” (Subject: "MB5 GREEN-LIGHT REQUEST")
  6. WAIT for your official “Green-Light” from the leadership team to begin data collection
IMPORTANT!

DO NOT BEGIN DATA COLLECTION (other than piloting) until your lab has been explicitly given the “Green-Light” to do so by the Project Leads.

Data collection:

  1. Collect your data following the guidelines in the Running the experiment section!

AFTER you finish data collection:

  1. Compile your participant and trial data files in consultation with data reporting guidelines (see Chapter 17)
  2. Verify your data files using the ManyBabies Data Validator (see Chapter 8)
  3. Submit your data using the MB5 Upload Form
  4. Report individual contributions using the MB Contribution Reporting Form
